It’s been just over 48 hours since we got this year’s crop of Oscar nominees, and with the actual Academy Awards ceremony not being until March 15, I have more lead time than I have in a long while. So naturally, I’m front-loading the fuck out of things and looking to do as much prep work as humanly possible before I begin my full Blitz coverage. Step one in that process is mapping out my schedule and making this central hub post, which I recommend bookmarking to keep up with things as simple as possible.
Earlier this afternoon, I shot, edited, and posted the annual Category Draw video, randomly selecting the contests that will get video breakdown treatment on my YouTube channel. I haven’t made a video in almost seven months thanks to (*gestures vaguely at everything*), and my hope is that by getting super far ahead I can occupy my brain from all the uncertainties in my life and operate with something of a purpose. Anxiety and depression are just SO MUCH FUN!
Anyway, here’s the video. I decided not to record my assignment of all the categories like I did last year, because ultimately I wasn’t happy with how long and involved it all was, especially for something that’s mostly random.
With the video subjects out of the way, filling out the rest of the schedule is pretty easy. There are 24 categories once again with the addition of Casting, and in a couple years we’ll be up to 25 when Stunt Design debuts. This makes for a fairly clean and orderly five weeks of coverage, and nearly three full weeks of lead time to get everything organized. As always, I’ll update this post with links to each day’s analysis as soon as it’s available, and given all the variables at play at the moment from a personal standpoint, please bear with me if I have to make changes.

And there you have it. That’s the schedule, at least for right now. If things get too crazy, I may decide to spread things out more, maybe do four categories a week instead of five or something. I don’t plan on changing anything, but by getting this polished off as early as I have, I’m at least giving myself some options should things become even crazier. So again, bookmark this page for easy access, and spend the next two weeks getting as pumped as I am!
